Artificial Grass

Driveway Design & Installation in Hertfordshire

A driveway is the first thing anyone sees when they arrive at your home. Matthew Oliver Landscapes designs and installs premium driveways across Hertfordshire in resin bound, natural stone, block paving and gravel — treating the driveway as an extension of the house and garden rather than somewhere to park. Built on the right sub-base, with drainage worked out first, so it performs year-round and still looks right in ten years.

WHY CHOOSE US

WHY MATTHEW OLIVER LANDSCAPES

Matthew Oliver Landscapes brings the same design intelligence to driveways as to every other element of a garden project — considering the overall approach from the street, the relationship with the house and garden, and the material choice that will look exceptional for years rather than just on day one.

It's also the element most often built to the wrong standard. A driveway laid on a thin base looks identical to one laid properly on the day it's finished; the difference only appears when the first heavy winter arrives. We build to take the load from the outset, so the surface you sign off is the surface you still have a decade later.

WHAT WE OFFER

Complete Driveway Solutions

Every driveway is designed around your property's architecture, the approach from the street and the way you actually use it — quality materials, correct construction and a finish built to take the weight.

01 Resin bound SuDS compliant and permeable, so surface water drains through rather than running off. Seamless, quiet underfoot and no loose stone.
02 Natural stone Setts, cobbles and stone paving laid to take vehicle weight, with the coursing set out to the house rather than to the pack.
03 Block paving Laid on a proper sub-base with the right laying course, edge restraints and jointing — which is what stops a drive rutting and spreading.
04 Gravel Contained by a decent edge and laid over a stabilising grid, so it stays where you put it instead of migrating onto the pavement.
05 Design & layout Turning circles, parking and the approach from the street worked out before anything is dug, so the drive is usable as well as handsome.
06 Dropped kerbs Applications and the crossing itself handled, including the council permissions the work needs before anyone starts.
07 Drainage & channels Falls, linear channels and soakaways designed in, so water leaves the drive rather than heading for the house.
08 Gate pillars & entrances The detail at the threshold — piers, capping and gates that set the tone before anyone reaches the front door.
09 Sub-base & excavation Dug out to depth, compacted in layers and built for the load. A driveway fails from underneath, long before the surface wears.
10 Removal & disposal The old surface broken out and carted away, with the site left clean and the access kept usable while we work.

The first thing anyone sees

A driveway is treated as an extension of the house and garden rather than a parking solution — the approach from the street, the material against the brickwork, the detail at the threshold. Built to look exceptional for years, not just on the day it is finished.
