Turfing & Planting

Turfing & Planting in Hertfordshire

A well-laid lawn and a considered planting scheme are what turn a landscaped garden into a living one. Matthew Oliver Landscapes provides quality turfing and bespoke planting plans across Hertfordshire — ground cultivated and improved before anything goes down, turf laid to establish fast, and planting chosen for the soil, light and aspect it's actually going into.

why choose us

WHY MATTHEW OLIVER LANDSCAPES

Turfing done properly — on correctly cultivated, levelled and improved soil — establishes quickly and looks exceptional. Planting chosen thoughtfully for the conditions and the design delivers year-round interest that gets better every year. Matthew Oliver Landscapes gets both right, every time.

It's also the stage where most projects are rushed. Turf laid over builders' rubble looks perfect for a fortnight and patchy by August; plants put in without regard for mature size need lifting three years later. We prepare the ground properly and plan for the size everything will reach, so the garden fills out as intended rather than needing redoing.

WHAT WE OFFER

Complete Turfing & Planting Solutions

Every lawn and every border is worked out for the conditions of your garden — proper ground preparation, quality stock and schemes designed to look better each year.

01 Turf supply & laying Cultivated turf from a proper grower, laid within a day of being cut and rolled in — not left on a pallet losing condition.
02 Ground preparation Cultivated, cleared and improved before anything goes down. Turf laid on unprepared ground looks fine for a fortnight and patchy for years.
03 Levelling & seeding Graded true, with falls away from the house, then seeded where seed suits the site better than turf and there is time to let it establish.
04 Planting plans Drawn for your soil, aspect and light, with a structure that carries the borders through winter rather than peaking for six weeks in June.
05 Shrubs & perennials Planted at the right spacing for what they will become, so the border fills in properly instead of needing thinning in year three.
06 Trees Positioned for the height, shade and screening the garden will want in ten years, staked and watered until they are away.
07 Hedging Set at the correct spacing and depth so it knits into a single screen, in a species chosen for how much clipping you want to do.
08 Bulbs & wildflower Bulbs in autumn for the spring that follows, and meadow areas sown to a mix suited to the soil — low maintenance, far better for pollinators.
09 Containers & pots Schemes for doorways, terraces and anywhere the ground is not available, planned to be changed as the seasons turn.
10 Aftercare advice What to water, when, and for how long. Most new planting that fails does so in the first eight weeks, and almost always for the same reason.

Both get better every year

Turf laid on correctly cultivated, levelled and improved soil establishes quickly and looks exceptional. Planting chosen for the conditions and the design delivers interest through the year. Both are worth doing properly once.
